Duckpond House Concert No.5
Collard Greens & Gravy
31 March 2012

After a six month break, it was time once more for a bit of furniture shifting,
to make way for our first house concert of the year. I must remember to take a photo
of how the laundry looks with a lounge suite, bookcase and three extra tables!
We kicked off 2012 in lively style with the return, by popular demand, of Collard Greens & Gravy,
who brought their brand of foot stomping country blues back to the Duckpond.

Jonni likes to make sure everything's ready in plenty of time, but I have to admit I was a little nervous
about the possible consequences of a pair of excited, mobile grand daughters, scooting around the place.
I would have found the hanging table cloths irresistible when I was their age!

Then the guests began to arrive. The house concerts are a great opportunity
for friends and locals to catch up with one another. Most of the guests had missed
Collard Greens & Gravy last time, but there were a few who had come back for more.

Because guests have been bringing so much food, we decided
not to provide pumpkin soup for the masses this year, despite some protests.
However, Jonni made sure the band didn't go hungry by supplying them with a couple of his
special pizzas and a humungous plate of sandwiches - to say nothing of a bit of liquid refreshment.

Then they somehow managed to fit themselves quite snugly into the available space.

James, Shorty and Ian were in fine form, and were able to play everybody's requests.
Jonni was particularly impressed with their improvisational skills,
particularly with songs they hadn't played in a very long time.
You can find out more about Collard Greens and Gravy, and listen to their music on their website at

And, of course, there were many who just couldn't resist the toe tapping music,
managing to find just enough room in the kitchen for some lively and impressive dancing.

It was great to see that the same enthusiasm as last year was still there,
and we are looking forward to another year of quality live music here at the Duckpond.
