Duckpond
House Concert No. 25
Edwina Hayes
26
March 2015
Normally at this time we're putting on our first house concert of the year,
but this year there have
been so many opportunities we couldn't refuse that we found ourselves putting
on our third!
And our third international artist at that. When Pete Titchener, who was here
at the Duckpond
last November with Eric Bogle, contacted Jonni to say he was organising an
Australian tour
for English singer/songwriter Edwina Hayes, we didn't know anything about
her, but it only took
a couple of YouTube clips to convince us we really wanted to have her play
at the Duckpond.
Our lovely ornamental grapevine has been particularly luxurious this year,
providing us with
added shelter from the sun's heat. Right now it's in that stage between the
green of summer
and the glorious crimson of autumn
Although highly regarded in the UK and USA, with fans including Michael Parkinson
and
Nancy Griffith, Edwina is not yet well known in Australia. However, her current
tour will change
all that, I'm sure, with rave reviews from her performances at Port Fairy
and Blue Mountains
Folk Festivals. At the Duckpond, she charmed the audience with her bubbly
personality,
amusing and quirky stories and her voice of an angel.
Needless to say, Edwina's CDs were highly popular.
If you'd like to find out more about Edwina, go to her website at
www.edwinahayes.com
and, if you'd like to get an idea of what the night was like,
Jonni has put together a video
of highlights.
At the end of the night, one of our guests put on an impromptu recital on
our much neglected piano
I don't often get my photo on here, because I'm usually the one
taking the photos, but Jonni managed to get this one of me.
