Duckpond House Concert No. 35
Saltbush Ensemble
10 Decenber 2016

It was quite a departure for us when Jonni managed to organise a Baroque trio to play
the final house concert for 2016. This was our first foray into classical music.

This concert proved to be a first in many ways, including the first time a viola da gamba was to feature.
We fell in love with this beautiful instrument when we saw the movie Tous Les Matins Du Monde,
and have been keen to have one played here.

As the concert was an afternoon affair, we decided to try a different layout from our usual table and chairs.
It seemed to work well.

As the viola da gamba is a gut string instrument, much tuning was required.
Here is Reidun Turner doing just that.

Another first for us was the theorbo, which is like a lute on steroids.
With all those strings, including 7 long bass strings, it too requires much tuning.
Samantha Cohen managed suberbly.

The third member of Saltbush Ensemble is Ryan Williams, who plays an assortment of recorders.
Here he is describing this particular one.

The trio performed a unique programme of French Baroque music inspired by the movie
Tous Les Matins Du Monde
, including works by Marin Marais, Jaques Morel, Charles Dieupart,
Jaques-Martin Hotteterre and Antoine Boesset
