Duckpond
House Concert No. 45
Tenzin Choegyal, Taro Terahara & Ayako Ikeda
7
February 2020
Because we're in a high
risk bushfire area we don't usually have house concerts in January or February,
but, when Tenzin Choegyal's tour manager contacted Jonni to see if we had
an opening in February,
we jumped at the chance, particularly when they agreed to our condition that
the concert would be cancelled
if a total fire ban was declared for that day. As it turned out, the weather
gods smiled on us, giving us a lovely mild day.
Tenzin is one of only a
handful of artists keeping Tibet's traditional music alive
and has become a huge audience favourite at music festivals across Australia.
We'd like to thank Trevor Pearson, who did the sound for this concert, for
this photo
of Tenzin and 2 more photos below.
Tenzin was accompanied by two musicians from Japan - Taro Teraharo on bansuri
and Ayako
Ikeda on
tabla. The trio combined to produce haunting melodies
and Tenzin's rich voice completed the perfection.
It
was a joy to see these three wonderful musicians so obviously
enjoying each other's company and enjoying playing music together.
It was definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
Taro, in particular, was as delighted with the audience as they were with
him.
We
were delighted to accommodate the group overnight, and Taro was glad of an
opportunity
to spend time out by the pond recording the voices of our multitude of frogs.
