Duckpond House Concert No. 52
Apolline
8 September 2024

When Jonni and I first saw Apolline at Crestfest in 2023 we were blown away
by their talent, and amazed at how accomplished they were for their age - they were just
out of school! Since then, they've been very busy stunning audiences all over Australia
and winning awards. One such award resulted in them going to the Goderich Celtic Roots
Festival in Ontario, Canada. We were very pleased that they were able to fit a
Duckpond House Concert into their busy schedule.

Sisters Tess & Luisa (affectionately known as Lulu) Hickey grew up in a musical family,
exposed to folk music for most of their lives.

The sisters met Laura Heaney in high school when they played in
various bands together. From then the girls started playing
together regularly, before making their festival debut at the
National Celtic Folk Festival in 2022.

Apolline's music, which incorporates Celtic and Scandanavian folk influences
as well as jazz and pop, is like no other. They are highly talented musicians
and seem destined for bigger things.

For afternoon concerts, we provide the afternoon tea, which
includes very yummy sandwiches.
It appears that someone loved
sandwiches - but only the 'innards', as this plate of discarded 'outers'
was found later where it had been left abandonned on a shelf
in the pantry!. I suppose it takes all sorts to make a world?!
