A Little
International Help
21 July2003
The Binder family, from South Bend, Indiana, were in Melbourne for a few
days,
and the boys were keen to see all the birds and animals at Healesville Sanctuary,
just five minutes from The Duckpond. With our plans for the addition of many
new plants in the garden
it seemed too good an opportunity to miss, and I dragged the family up to
The Duckpond
on the pretext of showing them the house. Once captive inside the gate, I
managed to coerce
Matthew and Russell into planting two new trees for us.
Russell chose to plant the Eucalyptus ficifolia. At this size, the hole didn't
need to be very big.
He's pointing at the tree, just in case you can't find it in the photo!
Matthew's tree is a Eucalyptus leucoxylon. I was a bit worried about the secateurs
in his hand
as the tree is small enough already.
I hope that the boys will return in a few years time so that I can take their
photos
standing under a couple of mature trees.
